So, come along and let's explore together how to deepen our relationship with God through mindful choices and attention to what truly matters.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the two fish podcast. My name is Nick, I'm Aaron and this week on the two fish podcast it's basically that's right, two fish community we are back.

Speaker 2:

We are excited to be back and recording this episode. But, man, you guys have probably been scratching your heads out there wondering what are we doing?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we've definitely had this episode before because this has happened before, but we went through a season of time, a season of life, a season of for different reasons, I don't think, very good reasons this time, but no, but we, we just weren't able to record, and then we had a bunch that were recorded ahead of time, that we could have had edited and followed out our Schedule, and I just failed miserably at the editing part.

Speaker 1:

So that is all me and so His partner could not, just couldn't make the trip to pick up, so to do the editing you're new to the show, I guess let's just first off say we go through the Bible and we talk about the stories and we walk through different chapters, different ideas, different principles in the Bible and we just kind of like can't fire, sit around and talk about Scripture. When we first started, we literally did an episode every single week. Yeah, I can't looking back now. Imagine doing that now.

Speaker 1:

I think was be. It would be very hard, but that was COVID. Our plates were way less full than they are now and even looking ahead, we have full plates.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, that's the one thing. I share this a lot and I probably shared it on here. The one thing I miss about code during COVID I sat down with my family, for I counted it was 30 days in a row. All four of us sat down and At least two meals a day together.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, do you used to go out for lunch, which I do. You came home, I'd come home.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because I didn't get the luxury of not going to work.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, I came home and yeah, there's nothing around was over, but but yeah, no, you had the time and you got close, and you, we would, you would come over, we would record.

Speaker 2:

I would edit we maintained six feet distance Back then.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and then I would edit that night and it'd be out the next morning for a long time, and then I think we got a week ahead. Then life happens and and we went to two weeks and now we're once a month. We're a once a month show for lucky.

Speaker 2:

No, we are gonna get away from that. We're gonna get back on to the every other week. I'm probably not going back to the once a week, but we do want to get back to the every other week. We love this.

Speaker 1:

We love watching stats and getting some feedback and and just having this community like it is uplifting to Nick and I and and we to clarify looking at stats not to say, oh look, how big our show is, but looking at stats and say gosh.

Speaker 2:

We're played in scripture, yeah is literally going out. Yeah, consistently. Eight different countries every week. Yeah, with multiple people in those countries and like every now and then you get a different random Country and we've been played on every continent.

Speaker 1:

Yep in the world 50 some countries total I think so, yeah, it's been, it's been amazing, it's been a blessing, but life has gotten busy again. School starting, school starting school will be have started when this episode comes out and I always think I'll finally back to a schedule. And then I look at the schedule and I go it's just the same thing, it's just more scheduled. Yeah, just as busy, we're just more scheduled. There were a lot of a lot of summer activities this year.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and then this episode that we're planning on, that we're doing right now. We've tried to record two different times. The first time, the ironic Miss of it, will come here, but first time something happened, you text me not coming.

Speaker 2:

Yep, like are you, are you alright, I think my daughter to the doctor.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's just kind of a last second thing. I'm like are you okay? Yeah, everything's fine, but like, okay, and then the very next week the plan was to come do it again and I got a call.

Speaker 2:

I was leaving my driveway.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I got a call from work. Something had gone wrong and I got a call and I tried to get out of it. Can't wait till tomorrow morning. And they're like, nope, you got to come right now. And like, uh, so six, six, thirty, whenever it was, I call you as I'm driving down the road, like, are you on your way yet? No, okay, don't come, I gotta go. And so the funny ironic thing about that is we're going to Luke, chapter 10. If you open your Bibles, pause maybe read this section 38 through the end of the chapter. This is a very good little portion of scripture that talks about being busy and talks about having your mind on Things that aren't bad. Sometimes we're putting them in front of more important things. Yeah, we're getting busy and losing track of what we should, where we should be focusing more of our attention.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So Luke, chapter 10, we're gonna jump down to verse 38. My heading here is at the home of Martha and Mary. As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet Listening to what he had to say. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me, martha.

Speaker 2:

Martha, the Lord answered. You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed, or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.

Speaker 1:

All right, short little section there. I really think that it just hit home on this busyness of life. Hey, can we podcast this week? No, I got this going on, I got that going on. And the easier and easier it gets to do those things. Same thing with Sunday morning. You have a week off, a Sunday morning, we didn't go to church and you're like, next week I want to do that. It just gets easier and easier to say I'm gonna prioritize things different.

Speaker 2:

Along those lines, like go to church during the summer and you can tell attendance is lower.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, our church the kids programs are off for the summer, which I was laughing like. I feel like that's when they need to be on right, because they're not. You know what I mean? Because they have nothing else to do all summer.

Speaker 2:

We put other priorities in in front of going to church.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, as we've said in the past, if this is your first time here, aaron and I do two separate versions, typically, of the Bible. I am ESV or die, I'm an IV and IV, and so there's always little things that are Maybe worded different, one of the things that really points out at first verse 41. But the Lord answered her, martha. Martha, you're anxious and troubled about many things. You're worried about the things and what's funny is these things weren't bad like the things that Martha was worried about. To me they're not bad. She's hosting the Messiah. She probably doesn't know that right away at this moment seems like they've just now for the first time met and she's hosting. Well, how many people have had friends or family over? You clean the house. You get right. You have to act. You have to clean the house so that it looks like you don't live there. I mean I don't know how many times we've had family or friends over and Bailey's like the house has to be spotless, like we do live here. You know it's okay if it's a little.

Speaker 1:

No, no. And so the things I think Martha is worried about and anxious about aren't bad things. She's, she's hosting, she's a hostess, she wants People to enjoy themselves or to be blessed. She's blessing other people by probably providing a meal and probably, you know, allowing her, opening her, her home, up for Jesus to have a Bible study, or whatever they're doing there right.

Speaker 2:

So the picture I get with this is like for whatever reason, you're hosting your your Christmas dinner at your house for your work and You're getting your house ready for that, but everybody shows up three hours early.

Speaker 2:

Yeah and and you go into like freak out mode. Yeah, is what I imagine Martha's doing. Yeah, like these people just showed up and she's like well, I gotta do this, I gotta do that, I got to cook food, I gotta prepare the beds, I gotta prepare the table, I gotta do like she's running around which I think could also cause a little bitterness.

Speaker 1:

Then, when I play that Scenario out, my co-workers are there, my friends are all there and they're having this great time while I'm scrambling to get work done. And then the second thing that really pops out of me of this is I see my boys, cohen and Ryan. I see them, ryan, going with the heck dad. You told me to do this, you told us to do dishes, and Cohen's not over here helping me. Make him come over here and help me. Yeah, like Martha's, like if she would help me.

Speaker 1:

I would be done, I'd be done, and we can enjoy this and we can do that again. These things that she's doing aren't necessarily bad. She's just chosen to do these things over spending time at the feet of Jesus, which I like the way that Luke writes, that is Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus. She you don't. You typically sit at someone's feet unless you are very interested in what they are having to say. Yeah, and she's sitting there like you got breathing every word in, and so Martha then comes to G, and so Martha then comes to Jesus and she says, look, I've got this, I'm, I have to do everything.

Speaker 1:

Tell my sister to get up, which this could also be a cultural thing. You know what I mean. Like the women, you know cultures. Cultures change. It's not so much the same as it used to be, but the women would do all the housework. They'd be in the background you know what I mean while the men were doing business. Let's say, you know what I mean, yeah, and so she's like Mary probably shouldn't even be here. Anyway, tell her to get over here and help me do the job that we're supposed to do. And Jesus is like Marcy, you got it wrong. You got it wrong. You're right, but you're wrong. You're doing good, but you're not doing it in the right order.

Speaker 2:

You know, I just I just caught this. You said earlier they might not have known that he, that he was the Messiah, but she, she called him right here, lord, don't you know, that's true, don't you care that? My sister, so like she knows he's.

Speaker 1:

Lord. If she doesn't know he's Messiah, she knows he's got authority.

Speaker 2:

Yeah if anything else, she knows that he is someone important right and Well, the only thing she wouldn't talk to him about, to complain about fact her sister's, not I'm like yeah. I don't know, I just picked that, just stood out to me like they. They knew she knew, yeah, she knew he was Lord. She got distracted by the things of the world. And they're sitting, jesus is in the room, like so bring us into that picture. Like, typically Jesus isn't sitting in the room with us, like not physically, never is right. Spiritually he is.

Speaker 2:

But how easy it is for us to forget that and we get busy with the, the kids activities, the our work lives, our Personal lives, yard work, chores around the house, whatever. Like we get busy with all these other things and we don't one. We probably forget to sit down as a family. Yeah, like I literally just got in trouble for that. This week we sat down at dinner for the first time in a while and I ended up on my phone Texting some people about some something serious that had happened, but I was distracted by that instead of Spending time with my wife and my daughter.

Speaker 2:

Yeah and we haven't sat down at the dinner table together and I was been a couple weeks and that was the first one of my like, my wife ended up calling me out on it, but that's the same type of thing. And picture your relationship with Jesus in the midst of that. And if you put yourself and Mary and Martha shoes, mary is like no, no, the Lord's here, yeah, I'm gonna sit with him.

Speaker 1:

I have an opportunity of a lifetime because he's not always gonna be in my house. Right, he's gonna be moved on, so I'm not necessarily worried about the dishes being done right after dinner. Those can wait. He's not gonna be here. He's gonna leave in a couple hours to wherever he's going to next. He's right here right now. I want to get as much as possible.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he's already. He's already in my house like nothing you're gonna clean up now. He already saw it, knows the beds not made. He knows Whatever there's junk on the floor. Yeah, he already knows. And Martha's caught up in those things and the Preparations. I would speculate she's very. She should have already been prepared for.

Speaker 1:

Then let's say this was a very random visit. What you could have been? He could have been walking by and was Martha procrastinator.

Speaker 2:

That's a joke.

Speaker 1:

Okay, yeah, I'm like thinking like maybe Now this could have been a very much a Zach Zach, he is moment that he has come down out of tree. I'm coming to your house.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah and then Zach, he is his wife Martha, not really, but it's like you said, ye, what you? Who's coming over and she's frantically freaking out Cuz she probably wants to sit at the feet of Jesus, but she thinks that these other things are more important. And so I think a lot of things and I'm not. Let's pull this in a little bit. I'm not saying that what we, air nice, have been doing has not been good, not been wrong, but we've also put our this calling of doing this, this ministry, together. We've kind of put that on the back burner and it's gotten easier and easier to say.

Speaker 1:

Now I got very important things the intentionality. Intentionality, that's a great word, that's great. We've lost sight of the intentionality and we've gotten out of the habit of doing it, and that's. I remember when we first started the show hey, the number seven, all podcasts quit after seven and part of seven episodes and I was like I don't care If we stop eight, we're at least doing seven. You know, I think we have a hundred and I don't know how many now, hundred and fifty maybe, I don't know, that's a good question.

Speaker 2:

I that is good question.

Speaker 1:

I haven't looked at that in a while because there's some old ones.

Speaker 2:

They got pulled down.

Speaker 1:

We took some down and so, but one of those things that it took was being super, super intentional About making sure we and once you're in that pattern, that groove, it's much easier when you miss week and then you miss another week and all of a sudden, oh man, you know what, we got all this stuff. Important, yes, but we've kind of lost sight of. Hey, we felt called to do this and I have yet to feel okay, god said all right, you're good, you're done. I feel like there's still things that we want to do through this ministry. So all that say we stink, right? No, we are going to get try as hard as we can to get more intentional, to make sure that we're continuing to do this gospel spreading thing through this medium.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, I Full-heartedly agree, like nothing in me has said hey, time to hang it up on the two-fifth.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and that they may come, god may say, hey, good job in that season. I'm moving you to something different now.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I got, I'm shifting the plans but no, I definitely think we became a little bit of a Martha and some of it we couldn't help, but it it definitely becomes Easier and easier. Yep, as you say, oh, you know, I get, we'll get it. Next week we had, we had five episodes. Yeah, we were ahead again. I Unlike the one time where we lost them all on the file like we we had worked our way back ahead and it just like they didn't get edited and yeah, there's also that there's being intentional.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I have to set time aside to make sure that I sit down and edit. It doesn't take takes an hour To do an episode. It's not a ton of, it's not hard, but sometimes it feels like a grind and there's other things that need to be done. I'm gonna do these other things, yep, and so, just staying intentional, and I think that's that's a message and a point to everybody. Then, about your relationship with christ yeah, do I? We did an episode. I can't even say a couple weeks ago now, because it's been so long. We didn't have a set of our backs like you know jesus, but how does he know you? Yeah, you know what I mean. If you're only going to him when you need something, that's all he's gonna know you for is. Here comes this kid again needed money, right? Are you being intentional with the time you're spending With christ or in the things that you're doing within ministry or within church or within your family? You know what I mean. We need to make sure that we're staying intentional.

Speaker 2:

That's so convicting when you sit and think about it, like the things you put in front of, like we've been hitting miss on church, like we said at the beginning, and like we've been one of those. We've been that family this summer. Oh yeah, for sure, we've missed several weeks and it's just, it's kind of you sit back and you reflect Well, why did I really miss church? Was it that I'd said Church was inconvenient that day?

Speaker 1:

That could have really went the two hours a week. Oh yeah, that, when I think about that, I'm like it's two hours a week, right, I could have mowed the yard on Saturday night instead of Sunday morning, yeah, something.

Speaker 2:

Um, the verse I also think of in regards to this is in Matthew 6. Uh, matthew 6, verse 6. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you and pray to your father in private. Then your father, who sees everything, will reward you, and I think that's that's part of that Intentionality. Like, go get with Jesus, like Mary did. Mary went, jesus showed up, mary sat at his feet. Yeah, he showed up. Mary went and sat at his feet.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, where now we got to kind of more of the Matthew 6. It right, we got to go get by ourselves and get with Jesus, and a big part of how Nick and I get with Jesus is doing this ministry. Yeah, and we, we love going through the Bible and talking it out with people. Um, I did, I did the same thing on a Monday night Bible study. We go through a chapter a week and we just talk through it and then talk about life. But if you're not being intentional with that time and making it a priority, you lose the accountability with your brother or sisters and then next thing you know Well, you're not going to church, you're not reading your Bible.

Speaker 2:

You're not doing your daily devotional, you're kind of just falling away a little bit. Yeah, go and get along, get, get with Jesus.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, be intentional about Putting Jesus first, yeah, putting that time first, putting the ministries first, putting church first before all that other stuff and, yes, like you said, super convicting. Now, sometimes some of the subjects we do, I'm like I really don't feel like I should be the one to talk about this, but as you go through scripture, these hard topics and things, you reflect and you're like, okay, yeah, that's me in the season, it wasn't last season, it won't be next season, but right now it is in the season, yeah, of being busy, not that any any of the things we're busy about or bad, it's just prioritizing those things and making sure that we're putting the right things in the right order.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I like how you say putting Putting Jesus first like the perfect laws. That reminds me of the perfect law. You must love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind and then and then.

Speaker 1:

Love your neighbor as yourself right, so it's this it's like the cross there's the vertical you and God, and then there's a horizontal you and people, but the vertical is the most important thing. That's the first Commandment that we need to be doing. Yeah, we got it and and when we do that, we're gonna end up doing the horizontal right and you can't.

Speaker 2:

You can't have other things on that vertical Before you get the God. Yeah, like he's got to be your number one. That's good. So, with all that said, nick and I are definitely excited. We're definitely getting gonna get intentional about getting these episodes done, getting them back out there on time on a regular Schedule for you guys.

Speaker 2:

Yeah and the two fish community. I we greatly appreciate you guys hanging in there with us. We can still see we're getting listens out there. And what threw up? A new episode? What three weeks ago and Immediately had you guys in there with some downloads. Like we can see some of that stuff.

Speaker 1:

And those are the people that are subscribed so that when we do have a long break. Unfortunately, those are always the first ones that list. Oh, there it is, they're back. So we do really appreciate you guys.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so yeah, if we look for we don't know where we're going.

Speaker 1:

I Cannot, I don't want to confirm that what the next episode is gonna be. Actually I can't confirm what it's gonna be If you listen to the last episode. I said last week when we were in Philemon, but then I realized later I haven't even edited the five, I don't have time today to do that, I'm just gonna release them out of order. So the next, after this episode, we'll have our study through the book, the huge book of Philemon, yeah, and then I think we're gonna have a guest and then we have a couple ideas for a couple guests, so Be looking out.

Speaker 1:

The best way To see that right away is to subscribe to follow. However you listen to podcasts, just make sure you hit those buttons so that when the new episode comes out you can be intentional with us About our relationship with God and scripture right here on the two fish podcast.
